With its modern styling, genius use of space and luxury appointment it’s no wonder the Prestige range won the European Boat of the Year in 2010.
The Prestige 500S is an engineering masterpiece that boasts so many incredible design elements you really must step aboard to grasp her true glory.
Externally, her sleek modern lines and vast use of glass ensure she turns heads in any waterway. Europeans are known for their attention to aesthetics and the 500S is no exception. This is a boat that was not only ahead of it’s time but timeless in its design. So much so that current 2019 model has an identical design and layout and commands a $1.6m price tag.
The ingenuity of this French built motor yacht derives from the Jenneau “Parent” company. “Jenneau uses advanced Dassault Systèmes software in the design and development process whilst digitally controlled machinery and varnishing robots are amongst the advanced tools employed with skilled artisans to build every boat. Infusion-mouldings for hulls and other structures give significant weight savings without sacrificing strength” – boatadvice.com.au
Stepping aboard the vessel via the teak swim platform you begin to sense the volume of this generous 50-footer. There’s nothing petite here. The tender garage in the transom sports a late model centre console BRIG with a 20HP Honda which is easily launched and retrieved whilst also keeping it off the deck and maximising this space.
Walking up through the transom gate the teak cockpit is perfectly proportioned to create space and functionality. It’s adorned with a generous U-shape settee with a varnished table that can be lowered to convert to a sun lounge. On those hot days this area is easily covered by the electric retractable awning which makes for comfort in all conditions. Access to the garage/lazarette storage or engine room is through 3 oversized gas assisted lockers fitted seamlessly into the teak cockpit sole.
Moving through the sliding stacker doors you can’t believe your eyes. The saloon is surrounded by glass giving water vistas from every position and floods this modern living space with natural light.
The upper galley is of domestic proportions and conveniently located aft to allow quick and easy access to the galley equipment and ensures when here you’re still part of the action onboard. The beautiful mirrored stacker doors to the rear cockpit can be positioned to the starboard side brings the galley onto the aft cockpit or to the port or centre to allows versatility of traffic flow depending on the occasion or time of day.
One of the many incredible and unique features of this beautiful vessel is the private and separate access to the master suite from the saloon. Something normally found in a much larger yacht this ensures the owners suite is a sanctuary of privacy. This full beam midships suite is basked in natural light from the large glass windows both port and starboard. This light filled suite features a queen sized island bed, a double settee/writing desk under the port side window, separate shower, vanity and head, masses of headroom and plenty of storage throughout.
Back up in the saloon the outdoors are brought into this space through the masses of low set windows port and starboard and glass rear doors aft. If you’re after some sunshine and fresh air simply slide back the motorised sunroof and transform this into a true sports yacht. The helm position to starboard and the lounges to port under this sunroof ensure the skipper is always part of the action and not just the chauffeur as found in other styles of boats. From the helm position you have 360-degree views around the boat for maximum enjoyment and minimal stress whilst berthing. With the sunroof open you can easily stand and raise your head above the rest and take in your surroundings. This feature can also assist in night-time navigation in unfamiliar cruising grounds. The VOLVO D6’s coupled with IPS drives deliver outstanding performance and manoeuvrability with joystick precision which makes tight spots a breeze. If it’s really blowing, it’s also nice to have the additional assistance from the bow thruster. The IPS technology is dominating the market and for good reason as the benefits they deliver to a vessel of this calibre are phenomenal.
Moving forward to the guest quarters the natural light floods through from the saloon above and the glass windows with in-built portholes in each cabin. The forward guest cabin could easily be mistaken for the master with its queen island bed forward and storage and wardrobes adorning either side. Another clever trick here is that the island bed can be easily split into two singles creating a more versatile accommodation arrangement for kids or other gusts.
The bathroom, separate shower and head that services the guest quarters are to port whilst the third cabin is to starboard. This third cabin consist of two full size singles, not just little bunks as found on other vessels of similar size. Under these beds as well as behind the companionway stairs is again another mass of storage ensuring weeks on board is clutter free and full of activities and drinks.
